Easy on the Shopping Trips

Traipsing round the supermarket isn't fun at the best of times, so why not get your food delivered to your doorstop? Four out of five of us use a motor for the big weekly food shop, so if every household in the UK had their food delivered, we'd save over 4 million tonnes of CO2 a year. That's like putting low energy bulbs in 85 million lights.

Here's a thing: according to formidably well-informed environmentalist George Monbiot, using the Internet for home delivery cuts the CO2 normally produced from the associated food transportation, refrigeration and lighting by up to 70%. Which is a lot.
