Check out the inspiring and empowering podcast from Colleen from Compassionate Cooks - it's called Vegetarian Food For Thought. She's very positive about choice and really nice to listen to :)

Hi paddy - well there's some top level info on the "why" page - http://www.dothegreenthing.com/green_actions/easy_on_the_meat/why - the purpose of which is to answer exactly this kind of question: why does doing this particular Green Thing matter? And if you want the detailed research/calcs on the CO2 impact of livestock agriculture you can find it on the wiki here: http://www.dothegreenthing.com/wiki/display/WIKI/Eat+less+meat+and+poultry This is absolutely a serious issue. Globally its the 3rd biggest contributor to global warming, according to the UN. Hope that helps explain.

I'm an active environmentalist and a fan of do the green thing. However the message of this lay of the meat issue isn't getting through to me.. I don't get the rap, I don't get the pulp fiction vid and this podcast is a ridiculous amount of things regarding meat taken out of context. These will only affect people who are ignorant to what eating meat is. It's fairly pissed me of actually, it is just a scare tactic. Of course the intent is good in this case and maybe it's more of a joke and I'm missing the humour, but, I think the approach is totally wrong. I'm conscious of the desicions I make in consuming and what I take into my body. So why should I not eat meat, how does it cut down on CO2 emissions? That's not rethorical and I'm not intentionally being a prick, I'd just like to know.
