A consumer society gone mad. As the NY imes puts it: "It is winter. A third of the city is poor. And unworn clothing is being destroyed nightly."
Unworn and unsold clothes from stores like H&M and WalMart are not just being thrown out instead of donated, they are being systematically destroyed so nobody else can use them!
According to graduate student Cynthia Magnus who noticed a pile of clothes on the way to the subway, the spoiled garments included: “Gloves with the fingers cut off. Warm socks. Cute patent leather Mary Jane school shoes, maybe for fourth graders, with the instep cut up with a scissor. Men’s jackets, slashed across the body and the arms. The puffy fiber fill was coming out in big white cotton balls.”
On 35th Street, hundreds of Wal-Mart sale clothes were found in garbage bags the week before Xmas with holes punched through each item by a machine.
Pretty damn outrageous and NOT a green thing.
