A fantastically cool invention for Blog Action Day - and you can't get much cooler than a sustainable fridge. Final year Business Management student, Emily Cummins, has just been named one of the Women of the Year for her rather brilliant electricity-free fridge.
The clever design uses just the heat from the sun and some simple physics to keep cool. The fridge was designed with developing countries in mind, with Emily spending 5 months out in Namibia fine-tuning her prototype.
In Emily's words: "We assume that the answer will require us to develop new and better technologies. Perhaps we should keep an eye on the past as well as the future, and combine the best of both."
Well said.
