We've all got them lurking somewhere in our fridge - that bit of Sunday lunch, those tired veggies, the remains of those 2-for-1 offers that were too tempting to pass up. But leftovers don't have to be consigned to the bin, with just a little creativity those odds and ends can be re-invented as delicious plates of food, and literally save you hundreds off your annual shopping bill.
But if you're no Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen then worry not, the stunningly informative Love Food Hate Waste has all sorts of inventive ideas for making the most of your leftovers. Either browse the recipes or just select the food you've got that needs using up, and it'll present you with recipes to match.
If you tend to make too much there are also some useful tips on food storage and freezing, portion sizes, as well as a handy 2 week meal planner complete with shopping list, ensuring you just end up buying what you need.
You could even save up to £50 a month just by re-thinking your food habits. If everyone in the UK did the ‘Use it Up' thing in the kitchen, we'd save a colossal £10.2 billion every year, and around 18 million tonnes of CO2, the same as taking a fifth of our cars off the road. Not a bad result at all really for re-invigorating your meal times. More info on food waste here.
Whether you're making soup out of leftover veggies, or a sumptuous curry from your Sunday roast, we'd love to hear how you're giving your leftovers a new lease of life! Do post up a story or a comment (it's easy to add a story, just use the ‘Add a Story' link in the box on the left).
