Get happier with a houseplant

(Image: factoidz)

It might be cold and wintery outside but you can still grow some colour and happiness inside. Cheer up your home in a natural way with some pretty houseplants, the easy and beautiful addition to any home. Not only are they nice to look at but houseplants have many benefits such as cleaning the air of pollutants that can cause nausea and headaches and reducing carbon dioxide. Houseplants are natural humidifiers so ditch the humidifier and stock up on plants instead. Houseplants will also make you happy as they add to feelings of wellbeing resulting in a calmer, more optimistic you. Now that's something that no one will turn down!

But exactly what plants will keep you happy during the winter? The Christmas Cactus (as seen above), the beautifully fragrant Jasmine, some colourful Kalanchoe and gorgeous Amaryllis will all bloom naturally during the winter months. If you are an experienced gardener you can also grow miniature roses and exotic orchid varieties in the winter. It is easy to forget about sunlight during long dark days but it is important that plants receive as much sunlight as possible to survive.

So pot up some pretty plants today and celebrate National Houseplant Day by being a bit happier!

I'm so obsessed with the wellbeing of my houseplants that i taxied them to a friend's house (i've relocated overseas for 6 months) and sent her detailed instructions along with sketches for each plant i'm referring to. One month in and she's sending me photographic updates as to how they are getting on - my olive tree seems to be very happy in her back garden - and so far no reports of any deaths!
