Another great water scheme is in the pipeline. The 'Give me Tap' project allows users to get free tap water from designated sources in a town.
'GiveMeTap is not just about less bottles, less recycling and money savings (though we're not complaining), it's about understanding why those things are a problem today, and finding innovative and sustainable solutions. We envision a future where around every corner there is access to the gift of fresh water'
Users can type in their postcode and find taps in their local areas, making it so much easier to find and access tap water once they've left home or the workplace. To participate, you need to buy the Give me Tap branded reuseable water bottle and then head over to participating cafes and restaurants.
In theory you should just be able to rock up to any cafe or restaurant, with any resuable bottle and ask for tap. But, that may take a while longer to happen. In the meantime, 'Give me Tap' is an excellent start, not only for the potential impact it will have on the environment, but also for creating a campaign about accessing free tap water.
The Give me Tap scheme is only operating out of Manchester at the moment, with London on the way soon. In the meantime, you can take some tips from Green Thing on how to ask for tap.
