I wonder what the 350 people who complained about the latest ACT On CO2 ad because it manipulatively used a doe-eyed child to get it's point across would have made about the infamous "Daisy" commercial that LBJ ran to damage his opponent Goldwater in the 1964 US presidential campaign.
It was controversial 35 years ago and probably still would be today, and it makes the AMV "Bedtime Story" ad look like...erm...any old ad manipulatively using a doe-eyed child to get it's point accros. Big goddamn deal. (I'm not even going to get into the complaints that were based on whether climate change is really happening).
While the Advertising Standards Authority investigates, judge for yourself:
It's insanity - there's a burning building and people are complaining becuase the fireman's bright yellow uniform is giving them a headache.
OK, it's late and I'm feeling whimsical so here's what popped into my head...
All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Goin' nowhere, goin' nowhere
Their tears are fillin' up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dyin'
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cause I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad world, mad world
Mad world, mad world
etc...
ps. As well as the number of viewer complaints, 350 also happens to be the safe upper limit of parts per million of CO2 in the atmosphere. Conspiracy theorists, Christmas has come early.
