Do The Green Thing: Most Brits just don't get it

Oh dear

Only two out of five British voters believe that climate change is real and is caused by human activity, according to a new poll by pollsters Populus for The Times

While this is clearly depressing, there is a glimmer of hope. 28% of those questioned agreed that climate change is "far and away" the most serious problem facing Britain - showing that the vast majority of people who understand climate change recognise the the magnitude of the threat.

What bugs me is when commentators see this sort of poll and say "Oh, the argument isn't won, there's still a 'debate' to be had" The only debate is about why people ignore scientific evidence!

For those who aren't pushed into action by the thought of global environmental degredation, which is perfectly understandable as it difficult to assess or predict with any accuracy, there remain the economic reasons to make sustainable choices. For example,rising gas and electricity bills mean that solar hot water system manufacturers such as SolarUK are experiencing increasing interest from homeowners, for whom solar energy now seems more cost effective.
