This is a fascinating TED talk by Eben Bayer who has designed and engineered an alternative to plastic packaging from a fungus-based material. The organism called 'mycelium' acts as an adhesive that can turn agriwaste into a foam-like material for packaging and insulation. Very interesting stuff.
