This Human Pump is the latest addition to a range of innovations powered by human kinetic energy (which include nightclubs, mobiles, lamps and cameras).
It's designed to work in places with a lot of pedestrian traffic to generate enough energy to pump underground water to the surface. Ignoring for a moment the odd choice of imagery to illustrate this technology - precious H20 gushing wastefully onto desert sand - the concept of people-powered energy is pretty cool and we'd like to see more of it please.
One of Green Thing's personal people-powered favourites has always been the Playpump, a children's merry-go-round attached to a water pump and storage tank that provides essential clean drinking water to children and families in rural Africa. As the children play, the water is pumped and a serious environmental problem is effortlessly solved by imagination and delight.
