Social Innovation March Meetup

Chris and Will

Last Wednesday was the environmentally-themed Social Innovation Camp March meetup and they were kind enough to ask James, Red and I to say a few words at the event.

The energy of people drawn together by the buzz of ideas to make the world a better pace is always a fine thing to behold; add in an eco slant and we Green Things were happy things indeed.

There were some great ideas too (and perhaps some not quite so great ;-) with innovative twists on how to solve problems, harness social forces and match people who need something (knowledge, expertise, organic food, etc) with the folks who have it.

Congrats to Paul, Katherine and the SICamp team for coming up with and running this engine of social innovation and thanks for letting us be part of it last week.

PS. you can join the SICamp Green Thing Group here.

Comments from Meetup.com [http://www.meetup.com/Social-Innovation-Camp/calendar/9783526] Manu Marchal [http://www.meetup.com/Social-Innovation-Camp/members/8488984] “ great job done by Katherine and Anna to crunch a 4 month adventure into 1h30! Given the short time to incubate the ideas, some great ones came out like the farmer-rama one or green my ride! ” Paul [http://www.meetup.com/Social-Innovation-Camp/members/8540739] “ Really friendly un intimidating place to meet like minded people. ” James Hetherington [http://www.meetup.com/Social-Innovation-Camp/members/8312776] “ It's amazing! ” Bec [http://www.meetup.com/Social-Innovation-Camp/members/8722239] “ I really loved this meetup. I was a bit skeptical before I arrived 'surely everything has been thought about for the environment' but Do the Green Think were inspirational in their approach and soon great ideas were plentiful. Well organised as ever! ” Chris Pienaar [http://www.meetup.com/Social-Innovation-Camp/members/9026907] “ I liked the way that the session was run and the presentation on www.dothegreenthing.com. It's given a few good ideas and I believe that the concept can make a real difference to social organisations. ” Helen Clarkson [http://www.meetup.com/Social-Innovation-Camp/members/8732468] “ I thought it was a good event - I like Do the Green Thing, but their presentation was probably a bit too long as it cut into the time to come up with ideas. I think that the explanation of the sort of ideas that were needed was a bit rushed, so people were writing quite strange things on the post-its! Lots that I saw weren't really solutions, so that bit could be slowed down a bit and people given a bit longer to think about it. I thought that that worked a bit better at the health meet-up - possibly because of the acoustics of the venue, or that Paul gave a slightly longer explanation. I thought it was a good event though, and lots of interesting ideas came out. ”
