Green Thing loves using up everything and wasting nothing.
So we've picked out four brilliant new inventions that do exactly this and are ingenious, imaginative, resourceful and creative ways to lead a greener life. Vote on facebook for your favourite and we'll create a Green Thing marketing campaign for the winning product worth a whopping £50k to help a sustainable start-up on its way to low-carbon world domination. Plus 10 lucky winners will each win a collection of all four products.
Ben Fogle told us he's going to vote for Makedo (he likes upcycling)
Who will you vote for?
Here's a little pitch for each of the models.
LFLECT lace let's you customise your favourite garments to make you visible to cars when cycling or running. It's saves piles of CO2 as it's made in the UK and avoids you buying new stuff. If we assume it replaces 5 items in total, that's 50kgs CO2.
Makedo is a reusable connector system for creating things from the stuff around you. Kids are unwittingly huge consumers. Makedo just 1 toy a month for a year and you have an average saving of 120kgs CO2/year per child. Most will makedo even more.
A moldable silicone that helps you hack and repair your stuff to make it work better and last longer- it could be the next cellotape! Every new thing creates an average of 10kgs CO2, if Sugru repairs 1 thing every two weeks that’s 260kgs CO2/year.
Woolfiller is a do-it-yourself kit for mending holes in woolen fabric. A darn good idea. Research on clothing and CO2 emission is in progress but if we assume 4 items of clothes aren't bought, that's 40kgs CO2/year saved.
Sustainability's Next Top Model is part of an All-Consuming summer, where well be sending you loads of fantastic new ideas, tips and tricks to help stop wasting and start using everything up.
