Since the widespread useage of mobile phones, phone booths in cities all over the world have been made redundant. Obsolete. Unloved. Lonely.
With no one really using them, there they stand in convenient locations, mostly ignored, until now.
But, these phone booths are making a comeback! In various cities around the world, phone booths are being converted into charge points for electric cars. Telekom Austria, announced this week that they'll be protoyping a telephone booth with a built-in charging station for electric vehicles.
Last year, Spain introduced 30 phone booth charge points as part of a pilot to kick start the use of electric cars.
In the US, Car Charging Group, Inc. are seeking out 'convenient and safe' charge points for electric cars, noting that phone booths could be an option.
Repurposing phonebooths as chargepoints for electric cars is a great All-Consuming idea to help people Drive The Good Drive.
