Time To Eat The Dog?

Controversial article from New Scientist about the carbon footprint of pets like dogs and cats vs. SUVs and medium sized cars.

It's a great info-graphic, but the calcs seem a little suspect - e.g. v. low mileage assumed for the cars and same footprint for fresh food assumed for pet food which is often made from human food byproducts, etc.

Makes a damn good headline though and certainly makes you think.

Wow! Super controversial, but definitely thought-provoking!

The comparison really should be between the pet and the pet owner. At least Fido doesn't drive a SUV, or worse, own a pet, or invent other gizmos that guzzle up precious resources.

I've never been much of a dog person - they lick everyone and crap everywhere and now there's an environmental reason not have the needy furballs ;-)
