Every green action we do helps the environment by ultimately reducing the amount of CO2 we produce. You don't have to be living in an eco-cave drinking recycled water to keep your carbon footprint down (unless that's your bag of course). For the rest of us going about our business it's the small everyday green things we do that can all add up to huge CO2 savings.
For example, walking instead of using your car for shorter journeys even a couple of times a week could save over 70 kg CO2 annually. If everyone did that it would save over 38,000 tonnes CO2, the same as 19,000 flights from London to New York. Or when the cold weather hits, just lowering your thermostat by a single degree would save you nearly half a tonne of carbon over the year, and you probably would hardly notice the difference.
Want to know how much CO2 your actions are saving? Take our quick and easy CO2 survey to find out. You can find it on your profile page; just go to the ‘Account > My Profile' menu at the top of the page, and click ‘Edit Your Profile'. The survey is stored under the ‘My CO2 savings' tab, simply slide the green arrow over to the statements that most closely match the green things you do.
And if you're scientifically-minded or just curious, you can read exactly how we calculated the CO2 savings for each green action here.
We've got £50 worth of DIY and gardening vouchers to give away! All you have to do is tell us one green thing you've been doing and you'll be entered into our prize draw. You've only got until 10 July so hurry and get posting! Tell us what you've been up to here...
