It's National Vegetarian week. There are statistics and campaigns flying around showing why vegetarianism is a good choice to make- not just for the planet but for your health. It can be a bit daunting, especially as Barbecue season is upon us and in a lot of places, the cost of meat is actually less than that of veggie options. Like, Big Macs, for example. They cost more than salad. This diagram sums it up nicely.

There's lots of things to think about when it comes to being vegetarian. What will you eat? Where will your food come from? When you order in a restaurant will it be a 'When Harry Met Sally' moment when you just feel too high maintenance?
On the flip side, vegetarians get some perks that carnivores don't. Veggies are the first to get their meals when at conventions and conferences. And you can grow your own virtually all of your food. Also, you won't feel guilty while watching the film Babe, or wonder what happened to Bambi's mum.
So, here's a little more food for thought: not just this week, but every week think about a day without meat. There is nothing wrong with a Part-time carnivore. You can be vegetarian-ish. The city of Ghent has pulled it off. How about you? Can you go easy on the meat even one day a week?
