If you thought eco-fashion was all hemp shirts, bamboo socks and shoes made out of old tyres then these 12 eco-fabrics will burst those ideas right out of their seams. There are new fabrics on the horizon, as the slideshow from Treehugger shows, and they're using stuff up like you wouldn't believe (like waste chicken feathers and salmon skin cast-offs - who knew?).

Treehugger highlighted that in a study carried out in several US States, it has been revealed that most places have 3.5 times the amount of parking spaces than cars. That's a lot.

Lots of parking spaces may not seem like a big deal, but when you think about all that land being used, covering up green spaces, messing about with groundwater and increasing water run-off, those extra 2.5 spaces per car do add up.

In Philidephia, in the Delaware Valley Green Building Council Competition, Annie Scheel was taken home first prize for her very clever redesign of a car bake. A car park that normally has the capacity to store 100 cars, can store up to 690 bikes.

How fun would it be to cycle down those ramps?!

Ps- Maybe now is a good time to pedal the pedals.

A while ago, Treehugger showcased some old food posters from Canada, America and Britain. They called it "Food posters from the past are recipes for the present". Most of these posters emerged as wartime messages, many of which are politically charged.

These are a fascinating historical account of people being informed to be conscious about the effect their consuming patterns have on others. When you scroll down, imagine how these could be used now. Imagine words that could easy be replaced and rearranged to illustrate how society now functions around consumption.

"Live Simply- avoid all food waste".

Surely we don't need another war to remind us of sensible, sustainable all-consuming actions.
