“What the **** is Green Thing?”

It was kitchen comedy. The day before we’d had the slightly mad idea about sending a walking beat to brilliant musicians and asking them to create a pieces instrumental music which we would then mix together into one glorious podcast you could download and walk to – and now here I was, walking up and down my kitchen while fiddling with Garageband, trying to measure out a relaxed walking beat.

After about three hours of pacing and knob-twiddling and I settled on 105bpm and over the next couple of weeks we sent it as a brief to brilliant musicians everywhere.

Of course nearly everyone said ‘what the **** is Green Thing?’ and we were staring down the barrel of a gun called failure until Paul Gathercole of AGK rode in on his white turntables. Being a good man and a talented musician (not a dream-on over-age Thom Yorke wannabe like me), he got in touch with his musician contacts, got Bruce Bickerton in on the act and a few weeks later had mixed something very chilled and very special.

A huge thanks to the two of them and to every one of the brilliant musicians who did their Green Thing too – try strolling to it and see how far it takes you. It works for me.
