Stay Corporate, Stay Selfish, Stay Green!
Company P and Company G sells garments, both stylish and very modern. They have 100 customers each. Now one day, Company G goes green by packaging the garments in environment friendly bags; they started using everything in green, from green printing, to green bags etc. Within few months the statistics was a little different, Company P, that used plastic for most of its packing, lost their 53 customers to Company G (that went green), now it was 153: 47.
Looks like a fictional stats, think again!
Going green is really affecting the way we live our lives. It is impacting the products we buy and the companies we work for. Consumers now prefer products and services from companies with a strong environmental reputation (Companies that promote green initiatives). According to a new survey, more than half of global consumers (53 percent/representing 1.1 billion people) prefer to purchase products and services from a company with a strong environmental reputation. Not only that, employees also preferred to work for an organization which is environmentally ethical/responsible.
“I prefer to buy from companies that are environment friendly as it gives me a satisfaction of doing something for the society”, says Sarah (A randomly picked person).
So company’s environmental reputation is becoming an important factor and should be taken care to improve the goodwill, social reputation and SALES. Even at the selfish level, to gain more profit, a company must get a green touch.
Why customers prefer Green companies?
1. It provides the customer a satisfaction of doing something good for the society.
2. It is becoming a trend, people do follow others.
3. Perception towards Green companies: Customers feel that a company that cares about environment, care about them.
4. People are becoming more environmental conscious.
5. Every day one more reason is getting added to the list. It is to stay and will grow.
Five things a company can do to improve its green Reputation:
1. Keeping its mission statements and company policies eco-friendly: it is very important that the customers get the message and the employees do the required. USA TODAY is promoting and maintaining a vigorous recycling program at all of its offices throughout the U.S. and the world, ensuring the reduction of waste of all office paper, computer, electronics and Mercury-containing light bulbs, and recycling containers for plastic bottles and cans all made readily accessible to employees. In addition, conservation and recycling of raw materials, such as inks, has become standard for USA TODAY facilities, which results in a reduction in the amount of waste generated by production processes.
2. Using Reusable bags instead of plastic bags: Bags represent the visible relationship of the company with the customer. A customer carrying a reusable bag (with company logo and style) feels much more satisfied. The consumption of plastic and paper shopping bags should be reduced due to their detrimental effect on the environment. Reusable bags by www.BagsontheRun.com is highly used by companies across US. They provide customized bags with company logos on it. All the bags developed by them are 100% recyclable.
3. Go for Green printing: Another area where customer interacts with ethe company is through the printed material. It feels good to say that the printing done by our company is environmental friendly. From scanning for various media, to archiving documents, to printing virtually any size run or format, through finishing and fulfillment green printings will always be a good green initiative. I was recently introduced to www.Bacchuspress.com (a Certified Green Printer in the San Francisco Bay Area). They make it easy for you to be kind to the environment while still delivering the highest quality printing possible; an intriguing solution from people who really care about their impact on the environment in the work they do.
4. Using Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs: Compact fluorescent light bulbs, however, can provide your work place with energy efficient lightening. These compact fluorescent light bulbs can save your company hundreds of dollars a year when it comes to your electric bill and in the process eliminate tons of green house gases. They also tend to last longer than traditional light bulbs making their price more affordable.
5. And lastly, making partnership with other green businesses: Eco-conscious people will always like to see more environmentally-friendly businesses in their area; they will need to build them themselves! When it comes to green solutions, green business grants must be given for business that is willing to invest in long term environmental solutions.
Thus by implementing these things, a company will not only STAY GREEN, but can also STAY CORPORATE & SELFISH!
It is very important to show the logos that will promote your business as an eco-friendly company.
Good Luck!
