Stick with a look

Is purple the new black or is it turquoise? Is boho chic still chic? And are shoulder pads really not in fashion anymore? Every time the trends change we’re pressured into getting a whole new wardrobe.

But a lot of nasty chemicals are used in the making of clothes. For instance, did you know that cotton uses more insecticides and pesticides than any other crop? You’d be better off sticking with the snazzy threads you already have – because if they’re not in fashion right now, they will be soon enough.

  • Fancy yourself as the next Stella McCartney? Then follow these tips and get yourself a new wardrobe by revamping your old one.
  • Swapping is the new shopping. Keep an eye out for swap parties like this one, or this one, or swap online here, or here.
  • Or if the artistic urge takes you, events like Swap-O-Rama-Rama and Feather Duster combine clothing swaps with sewing/embroidering/alteration/jazzing up master classes.

Here’s a thing…..that frilly, lime green polyester top you bought isn’t just bad on the eyes; it’s bad for the environment too. Lots of oil and harsh chemicals will have been used to make it, and isn’t even biodegradable. Which means once you’ve chucked it out, it’ll probably be around for another 200 years or so. Ye gods.
