Easy on the pesticides

Nitrogen fertilisers are the Darth Vader of the fertiliser world – they’re the biggest, baddest, evilest of them all. They produce nitrous oxide, which has 296 times the global warming potential of CO2 and each tonne of fertiliser produces 6.7 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

Nitrogen fertilisers have polluted enough drinking water to supply 3 million people a day in the UK. They’re also killing off species of wild plants and insects which is affecting birds and other animals. Organic farms don’t use any nitrogen fertilisers, which means their soil is healthier, their food tastier, and their impact on the environment much, much less.

Here’s a thing……….as well as being better for the planet, organic fruit and vegetables are better for us too. They have higher concentrations of vitamin C, iron, heart-protecting antioxidants and other essential minerals. Some types of organic carrot have even been scientifically proven to help you fly, according to some bloke in the pub. But he might have been making that up.
