Easy on the plastic bags

Rucksacks, wicker baskets, granny trolleys, suitcases, man bags, those big handbags footballers’ wives keep small dogs in. There are so many things to put your shopping in, that there’s really no need for plastic bags – especially as they’re so bad for the environment. Not only do they take up to 1000 years to degrade, but each year thousands end up in rivers and seas where they’re fatally ingested by unsuspecting dolphins, turtles and whales.

Here’s a thing…..we use 17.5 billion plastic bags a year in the UK – and worldwide, the figure stands at between 500 billion and a trillion. That means by the time you’ve read this sentence, another 100,000 plastic bags will have been consumed. Around 60 million tonnes of CO2 will have been released making them all.
