Swap something
Give away something you don’t want and get something you do want. What a good idea. And do all it while keeping your money under the mattress where it should be and keeping your CO2 out of the atmosphere where it shouldn’t be. What’s not to like?
Some good places to swap something:
- Join freecycle.org, the granddaddy of swap sites. If there isn’t a local group in your area, you can always start one.
- Swap books in mysterious ways with the glorious bookcrossing.com.
- Swap clothes without undressing in front of other people (unless you want to) here, here, or here.
- And if you’re a swapaholic and want more more more, try Swapcycle.co.uk or, if you live in London, the Gum Tree Swap Shop.

Here’s a thing… back in 9000 B.C. you and I might have traded a goat for some chickens and called it a day. More recently an enterprising Canadian called Kyle MacDonald managed to trade up one red paperclip for something bigger and better until he ended up with – a stapler, ha ha. That’s a joke. He actually ended up with a house believe it or not.
