It’s not an overnight job to stop the planet from overheating, but one way we can help is by not overheating our homes.
Heating uses more energy than anything else indoors and creates the most CO2 which is the main cause of climate change.
So if you turn your heating down a bit or off for a bit it’s a great way of doing your bit for the planet.
You’ll probably find you’re quite comfortable living at lower temperatures but if you’re chilly, don’t reach for the radiators. Try putting on a jumper. Even better, put on a person. Either way, use some body warmth.
However you do it, you'll save nearly half a tonne of CO2 over the year if you keep doing it. So once you've decided to make a habit of keeping your heating turned down a bit or off for a bit, please let us know that you've DONE IT and we can tot up all the CO2 the lovely Green Thing community will save.
See what happens when two people who really love each other turn down the heating and use body warmth instead. It’s a beautiful body-warming thing.
For five days across Valentine's week, Green Thing volunteers will turn their heating off and shiver like jellies unless you send them a body-warming hug.
Come to Soho Square in London at 1.30pm on Valentine's Day and participate in the world's first body warmth flash hug.
Which warm body part would best expresses your secret love? Lips, pecs, abs, legs, schnozzle? Pick one and send a low-carbon, body-warming Valentine to a secret fancy.
Penguins are brainy birds. They’ve known the secret of using body warmth for, well, donkey’s years. In fact, they don’t use thermostats at all. This exclusive wildlife documentary footage shows how they do it. See if you can p-pick up some tips.
