Wrap up your gaps
Draughts – to some a fun game that’s less complicated than chess, to others a source of misery and coldness. If your home’s draughty, if you can feel a breeze blowing in your living room, it’s because wind is seeping in through tiny gaps around your doors and windows. Finding these gaps and filling them in can reduce heat loss by 20%, not to mention reduce CO2 and your heating bill too.
How to fill the gaps:
- Draught proofing your doors, windows, cat-flaps and letterboxes is easy, and the materials can be bought at all DIY stores. If you’re not sure what to do, or want to get it done professionally, try the National Insulation Association or the Draught Proofing Association.
- Lock your windows. This draws the window closer, creating a tighter seal. As an added bonus, it will also help keep burglars out.
