Seven Reasons To Give To Green Thing

Green Thing is an independent, not-for-profit thing powered mainly by grants from foundations and individual contributions and of course enormous amounts of goodwill and volunteer love.

Donations help Green Thing make more of the inspiring creative content and features we need to tempt as many people as possible in as many countries as possible to do the Green Thing. A community of Green Things across the world will not only make a sizeable CO2 saving, it will encourage governments and businesses to do the Green Thing too.

So go on, please reach into your pocket and spare a little change guvna. Help Green Thing to make the biggest difference it can make. All sizes of donation are totally welcome and (almost) equally appreciated.

You can donate online to our registered charity right here >>

Thanks for your support, Naresh and Andy and James.

PS. please don’t forget the effect of gift aid - if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. And if you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim tax relief on your donation which means a £10 gift, for example, is worth over £12 to Green Thing and only costs you £7.69.

If, for some extraordinary reason, that wasn’t enough to persuade you. Here are seven more fantastic reasons to get giving to Green Thing.

1)    Green Thing’s mantra is Creativity Vs. Climate Change – using great creativity to make sustainable living smart, sexy, fashionable and fun and something worthwhile on its own terms. Or to put it another way, there’s more than one way to skin a cat – and we believe that creativity’s a much needed way to skin the climate change cat (NB Green Thing does not advocate the actual skinning of cats - or any other animal, for that matter)

2)    So far people from 201 countries have tuned into Green Thing on the Web over 4 million times, telling more than 48,000 stories and saving over 11,000 tonnes of reported CO2 (and we suspect the actual savings are many times that).

3)    We’re endorsed and advised by some of the world’s leading environmental thinkers, including Nobel Peace laureate Professor Wangari Maathai, Satish Kumar, founder and editor of Resurgence magazine, Alex Steffen, co-founder and executive editor of WorldChanging.com, and Cathy Zoi, Obama’s assistant secretary for renewable energy.

4)    Money donated to Green Thing is used for things like:
-    Creating brilliant videos, podcasts and other interactive features to inspire people to lead a greener life
-    Running and improving our website and online presence elsewhere (including developing apps and new functionality)
-    Helping get the word out about Green Thing (PR, distribution deals, holding events, etc)
-    Paying for great staff (volunteers only get you so far) and other business costs (office, computers, that sort of thing).
-    Researching the impact of Green Thing so we know how much difference it's making.
-    Fast electric cars and cases of organic wine (no, not really).

5)    Both talent and celebrity are coming out in force for Green Thing. Gus Vant Sant, Emma Thompson, and Dinos Chapman and Peter Saville have all designed Green Thing protest paper planes, Daryl Hannah, Ryan Giggs, the Noisettes and We Are Not Scientists have helped people to Stick With What You Got, Justin Hawkins has written ‘Heroes’, the first climate change cock-rock song, Tracy Chevalier, Howie B and Tugg from Basement Jaxx have written stories and music to walk to – and another 200 directors, musicians illustrators and animators have contributed brilliant bits of creativity to turn green living from something you ought to do to something that people want to do.

6)    You probably fit into one of these seven types of human beings who donate to Green Thing:
i)    Enormously clever people with impeccable judgement
ii)   People who believe in inspiring over hectoring or lecturing
iii)   Those who like the planet at the temperature it is, thank you very much
iv)   Polar bear enthusiasts and fans of ice caps
v)    People who never visited the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam and would like to see it without the Netherlands being completely flooded
vi)    Jugglers
vii)   Lottery winners (pretty please)

7)    We are to climate change what kryptonite is to superman – but a bit more fun, and a bit less rock-like.
