I only ever ask for tap in restaurants - and so far I haven't had any snobby or funny looks from the waiters (even ones at really nice places). And it means I'll probably buy a drink as well because I haven't wasted all my money on bottled water.

me too. It falls right out of the sky for free then we pay more than we do for petrol to drink it. Lil bit crazy, no? It's nearly as silly as those 'buy an acre of the moon or Mars' presents you can buy.

It's becoming much more accepted now to be asked for tap but I'm still amazed at how bottled water seems to be the default choice in so many situations.
