I was as sad as the sad icon on my iPod Mini when it crashed. iPods are just not built to last. Now, I know since it's a Mini it's obvious I've had it for awhile, but really I had not used it all that much and I felt like it should have lasted a LOT longer in terms of playing hours. If Sony Walkman CD players broke down as easily back in the day, there would have been consumer outrage - or at least people would switch to another brand. I took it to the Apple store to see if they could fix it. "We're sorry, we can't repair it as it's SOOO OLD. It's out of warranty. We can sell you a new one, though." Oh really, I can buy a new iPod? I wasn't aware of that. I got a picture in my head of thousands of sad iPods piled up in landfill somewhere. I resolved to replace it with another brand if I could not get it fixed. Happily, I found a third party supplier who replaced the hard drive at a fraction of the cost of a new iPod - much better for the environment.
