For Chirstmas, instead of buying all my friends little 5 dollar gifts, I hand crocheted scarves for each of them using yard My art teacher gave me. It's a wonderful gift because it means more to someone to recieve a handmade gift rather than just something bought at the store, and it inspires them to dress in warmer clothes than just sneak off in the middle of the day to turn up the thermostat.
