Story from laurenruiz05
I'm thinking of sending letters to all the apartment complexes in my town, including the one where I live, and asking them to consider placing paper recycling bins near the mail boxes (in place of the trashcans that are sometimes there), so that people can quickly review their mail in front of the mailboxes then recycle their junk mail.

In order to encourage the apartment complexes that this is easy and desirable, I can get people who live in the complexes to sign petitions, which I can mail along with the letters. In the letters, I will explain where the owners can get these bins and how they can go about getting the local dump, for lack of a better word, to pick them up. People are more apt to do things if they know how.

Now I just have to act on this great idea. If you guys like this or tell me that you will do the same! it will certainly give me that push I need.

Thanks for commenting, Katee! I'm glad you like the idea, and I'm glad I decided to revisit it. I'm about to write up the draft of the letter now.

I think that this is a great idea! Often people receive unwanted flyers and mail and out of convenience drop them in the bin. If there were a recycling bin that was located right beside the mailboxes, I'm sure there will be a difference in what goes to landfill vs. what get recycled. It's like all those yellow pages that get dumped in the lobbies of apartment and never get taken away. If the recycling facilities were there, it's almost as though people would have to go out of there way NOT to recycle. Great idea! Go for it!
