I'm an inventor who makes Firewinder wind-powered lights. My whole Firewinder venture has been one long plugged out journey of doing the green thing and I want to inspire you to take a risk and do something similar. Amongst countless other sacrifices I had to sell my beloved convertible car to pay for a prototype - but now you should see my muscular cycling thighs. I am always asked how Firewinder came to be, so I put together a video montage of my prototypes. Enjoy...

We love Earth Hour. We don't understand why anyone would want to keep their lights on all night when they've closed shop and gone home. We took a bunch of our wind-powered lights (called Firewinders) to the South Bank in London and met up with some new friends. To be honest, London's contribution to Earth Hour was very underwhelming. But, it was good to see a few notable buildings on the landscape become darkened silhouettes. If you don't know... we're all about off-grid and wind-powerd lights... we're part of the solution, not part of the problem. Firewinder is all about inspiring people that there are alternative solutions to our energy problems and while Firewinder is not going to change the world, it might inspire you to.

I am a young inventor based in the West Country. For the past few years I have been working on the development of a revolutionary wind-powered light called Firewinder that is 100% sustainable during operation. Firewinder is unlike anything before, it elegantly transforms a breeze into a delicate upward spiral of light and a strong wind into a pulsating pillar of light. The effects are mesmerizing - see www.firewinder.com for more info. It is my vision to for Firewinder to become a beacon for sustainability and spread the word about the positive benefits of using renewable energy. As of such, my business partner Joe and I decided to install 40 of our wind lights on the iconic Glastonbury Tor in early January this year. Our objective was to blow away people's winter blues with a free public art spectacle. The result was awesome. Hundreds of people came along and even the local BBC turned up to film it. The event ran for an entire weekend and we simply left them up there unattended for much of this time. Wonderfully, not a single one was pinched, despite having a value of £120 each. on the Sunday this spectacle could be seen from over 2 miles away in the neighboring village of Pilton (where the festival happens). My brother took this picture which capture the magic of wind light - remember - this uses no fuel, batteries or energy from the grid - it is 100% wind power. Let Firewinder inspire you to go green.
