Once again, VegBox Recipes is hosting the annual UK Veg Box Awards, now affectionately dubbed the “Golden Gourds”.

It should be fascinating to see what the UK population makes of their box providers, especially given the economic climate.

The data is due to be released in February 09, and promises to provide important strategic information for scheme providers fighting to stay competitive with supermarkets and their air-freighted, pesticide laden produce.

So if you get a veg box, get voting now at:

http://www.VegBox-Recipes.co.uk

You can rate your veg box provider on quality of produce, locality of produce and value for money, as well as telling us what they’re doing well and what they could do to improve.

Read more about the awards here:

I'm doing the all-consuming thing tonight ... it's my pal's 40th, the theme is Peace, Love and Music, and everyone's going in late 60s garb ... I thought about buying a new dress, then I thought "GREEEEEN", so I thought about buying second hand, and then I thought "GREEEEEENER", so I went through my old stuff, and found an enormous (hideous) orange kaftan (sp?) and I have a scarf I can tie around my head, and I know I've got some dodgy beads somewhere ... AND I'm gonna walk there and back!

Given the very obvious resurgence of Grow-Your-Own activism States-side, in the UK and elsewhere, we figured that it would be pretty handy to provide some tips for newbies so that more folks might feel encouraged to take even small steps towards a healthier planet, a healthier economy, a healthier body and a healthier community.

So we're doing the green thing here at VegBox Recipes by hosting a live webcast on December 2nd (watch this space for the log-in details) with special guest and prolific eco-writer / broadcaster Penney Poyzer, who will be talking to us about how to get started growing your own vegetables at home.

Before the webcast we'd like to know what questions you most need Penney to answer to help you decide whether or not growing food at home is for you.

Please add your comments / requests / questions here, and we'll make sure we cover as many of them as possible!

Claire, Clare and the VegBox Team

I made a chilli non carne using local organic root vegetables - with a recipe from our own website of course! Need any inspiration? The recipes are FREEEEEE - www.vegbox-recipes.co.uk. Check it out : )

I've been back on my bike for a month now, and not only am I no longer part of the bus smoke in my part of town, but I'm also fitter, so less of a drain on local health resources, and warmer, so I need less heating. Yeah for walking on the pedals!
