Years ago, while reading Diet for a Small Planet, decided to reduce meat consumption (never a favorite anyway, except for bacon) and find a way to live without a vehicle.
We were a three-car family at that time. Teenage daughter grew up and took her car with her. That left two. Two years later, we gave away one of our cars, rarely missed. Five years later we moved to a city with good public transit and sold our last vehicle. We subscribe to City Car-Share for those times we absolutely need our own wheels. Sometimes go months without using it. Train, bus, hoofin' it and lovin' the life.
