My green thing is made entirely from old newspapers. I make most things from old newspapers . . . if you scrunch them up enough times, the paper starts to take on a life of its own. It’s all held in place and smoothed down with trusty sellotape.
The 'arms' were the easiest parts, then ears, eyes and mouths. I used old ping pong balls for instant goggly eyes and cut each tooth out from toilet roll tubes. Once all of these elements were complete, they were stuffed into his newspaper body, a bit like arranging a bunch of really fat flowers.
Along the way I’d been keeping an eye out for green coloured packaging or paper to cover him with, paper mache style. This involved eating a lot of Mint Aeros and Polos. I did quite enjoy this part.
Lastly, his shoes are also newspaper, covered in gingham tissue paper. I had a very old pair of Converse, which came in handy for the details.
So, Green Thing is completely recycled, made from things I have used and loved. Hope you like it.
