A cold crisp December morning at Bournemouth Beach, South England. The swell was up from the night before and despite it being winter there was an abundance of surfers in the water. I approached one surfer, named David, and asked him what his thoughts were on environmental issues and his hopes and fears for the future.
This short film is part of "The Journey" an unique documentary project that delves into environmental, socio-culture and economic issues, with a questioning mind.
The film makers become Journeymen - a person whom travels in order to gain experience, skills and knowledge. Equipped only with minimal filming gear and personal possessions, we document our journey as we visit global communities to observe, question and share experiences with people.
We film inspiring ideas and projects over a wide spectrum of individuals and cultures, whilst examining our ability to reform our ideals, and our lifestyle in order to make positive changes for our planet and the human race.
It is an organic process that grows, evolves and takes its own direction. With no planned route nor destination, the journeymen believe they will connect with the right people and places at the right time to film, aid and guide them on.
As the project travels short films are uploaded that can be viewed on the website
www.the-journey.tv
It is the long-term goal that this project will travel internationally to create a feature length film that will be released, to be viewed for free.
The projects hope is to benefit individuals, projects and communities by sharing knowledge, offering solutions and connecting people through film.

stay grounded,
Its Wednesday, people and their bikes cue on the foot path eagerly waiting for 12 oclock. The doors open, and the day begins at the Kebelee Bike workshop. Run by a small group of volunteer bike mechanics, they repair the bikes from people within the community.
Recycled parts are used and they encourage people to fix their own bikes with their guidance. It results in a trade of skills and knowledge and people can walk out the door with a repaired bicycle for cost price of parts or a donation.

Stapleton Railway Station was not a place you wanted to visit. Badly lit and surrounded by derelict, people would avoid going there to catch the trains.
A group of permaculturists had the idea of transforming the surrounding land into a community gardening project, and in 2008 Eastside was born.
With the help of the volunteers, they have transformed the land into an inviting garden space, that has not only seen people return to using the train station but provides the community with food and plant produce, skills and knowledge, and a venue for events.

all-consuming,
A Bristol group who are part of the transition towns organization found out about a quirky English Law. The law states if 6 or more people apply to the council for allotment land, the council is then obligated to try to provide it
They were successful and were granted a large plot. Together they cleared the land and planted a crop for summer. The allotment is maintained by the group and harvest divided up between.

Piers, a dedicated musician, became inspired to build his own studio from straw bales. He initially learnt the technique by volunteering on a pre-existing build. Equipped with the knowledge and with the help of volunteers he was able to complete a beautiful organic studio in his own back yard. The cycle continues with those volunteers now working on their own individual projects.
