The average commute is 8.7 miles
each way or 17.4 miles a day. So if two people are sharing a car they will take a car off the road, saving 5.9 kg CO2 (if a car emits 0.339 kg CO2 per mile
- 17.4x0.339=5.899), and each will make a saving of 2.95 kg CO2 each time they car pool.
So if you can't bear to get rid your car you can still take a car off the road by carpooling, the pools are springing up all over the UK. Here is a selection for starters:
